Some songs seemingly have the ability to empathize with real world surroundings while they’re listened to (ex: James Blake‘s “Holocene” on a rainy day). And now, Spotify is testing the merits of this music-weather symbiotic relationship.
Unlike most aspects of the music industry, ticketing has remained largely untouched by the hands of time – save for digitalization. Ticket digitalization has streamlined the process of buying tickets significantly. However, with increasing digitalization comes greater ticket reselling through third-party platforms. These platforms make it easy to sell show tickets at drastic price increases.Tickets ending up on secondary markets is often a huge disadvantage to both artists and fans. To counteract the negative effects of outdated ticketing and to prevent tickets from ending up on secondary sites, big industry players are stepping up to revolutionize the way both bands and fans interact with ticketing.
SXSW is my favorite unofficial holiday every year. There’s nothing better than waiting for the SX schedule to drop like a child waiting for Santa to come down the chimney with mad gifts during Christmas. While there was talk of a SX scale-down, it was hard to notice when my calendar was blotched with calendar invites to official and unofficial shows and sessions for every half-hour block for ten days straight. My Christmas finally arrived. Here are my SXSW journal passages and records of some of the “gifts” that I got this year at SXSW 2017.
As SXSW continues to expand every year, bringing in some of the best bands from around the world, it also brings to Austin some of the best music showcases. This year, SXSW runs from March 10th through March 19th, with hundreds of shows all over Austin. Streets and venues will be jam-packed with thousands of people from all over the world who are looking for the best of the best in music – and SXSW is where they will find them.
Some say that music videos aren’t just what they used to be. They say that music videos used to have a specific character and theme to them, like the perfect visual embodiment of the music being played. While I do believe that music videos are made either as pure promotional material, like Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” or made just to spark controversy, like Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” I do believe some artists make videos just for fun. Local band Edison Chair does just that.
A band’s name is not merely a title for a group– it’s an identity that tells a story before the music even begins, a personal brand that resonates with the musical style and reflects the personalities of all the band members.
That being said, choosing a name is an extremely important process that can make or break a band’s success.
As spring break draws closer, excitement grows – but not for the reason you may think. It’s that time of the year again: Festival season. Dust off those Pashminas and Camelbaks, because the highly anticipated Austin Euphoria Music Festival is back again, making its annual appearance this April. Euphoria Festival begins on April 6th, with a cultivated lineup of musical artists, from Austin locals to famous artists from around the world.
We all are surrounded by the noise of the earth. Whether that noise is the sound of horns stuck in traffic, the lightning speed and sirens of a train, or just people around us, sometimes […]
