Sound on Sound Fest yields major success, confirms sophomore year

Despite cynicism and mass speculation from the Central Texas festival circuit, Sound on Sound Fest was a sonic success. Austin music lovers found themselves in a state of despondence upon the cancellation of the less-mainstream music and arts festival, FunFunFunFest. The dismay was promptly halted when SOS dropped a thriller of an innagural lineup to fill the void of FFFFest, including artists like Phantogram, Run the Jewels, Courtney Barnett and Explosions in the Sky.

Not only was the first year festival oozing with eclectic talent and sounds for grunge girls, hip hop heads and indie experts; it’s unique location was curiously tucked away in a mysterious woodland of wizardly vibes at the Sherwood Forest.  Even when Mama Nature unleashed her wrath with a seemingly malignant flood on Sunday afternoon, the show went on as Explosions in The Sky and STRFKR melted faces into the knee-deep mud- a true testament to the perseverance and passion pulsing through the veins of the festival curators.

Due to a successful freshman year of SOS, combined with nothing but positive consumer and media feedback, the festival has announced their 2017 return at the mystical Sherwood Forest, November 10-12. The SOS sequel is anticipated to have an ever bigger lineup while maintaining it’s artistic, non-conformist aura. It is more than safe to say that the festival is going to have a lasting impact on not only the Austin-area music and arts scene, but nationally as well. So keep your Doc Martens, rain boots, and abstract music taste in tact because Sound on Sound is building an empire.
