Sound on Sound Fest is rolling out some game-changing news. Today, Margin Walker Presents announced that the festival will be held at Sherwood Forest Faire in McDade, Texas just east of Austin on November 4-6, 2016. The festival team is excited to host the event in an untraditional location: a Renaissance fair with a castle.
Not only does this much anticipated event feature comedy standup, panel sessions, and on-site camping, but the lineup includes hometown favorites: Boyfrndz, Calliope Musicals, Magna Carda, Night Drive, Moving Panoramas, Leopold and His Fiction, Boombaptist, Protextor, Piñata Protest, Orthy, Anya, Emily Wolfe and US Weekly.
Sound on Sound Fest will also kicks it off with a daring lineup: Beach House will headline the inaugural fest alongside Austin’s Explosions in the Sky, as they perform in support of their seventh studio album, The Wilderness, released this April and electronic rock duo Phantogram; Run The Jewels; Purity Ring; Courtney Barnett; Outkast; Big Boi; original California punk rockers Descendents, who are set to release their long-awaited follow up album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, this July after a twelve-year recording hiatus; Young Thug; and Mac DeMarco.
SOS Fest will also host two rare reunion performances from Thursday, one of the most influential bands of the post-hardcore music scene, and The Monkeywrench, featuring Austin icon and former Big Boys guitarist, Tim Kerr, who are currently scheduled to perform only two US shows this year.
Additional acts at the inaugural Sound on Sound Fest include a diverse mix of nationally acclaimed and up-and-coming performers, including Death Grips, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Wale, FLAG (featuring members Keith Morris, Bill Stevenson, Chuck Dukowski, and Dez Cadena, as well as the Descendents’ Stephen Egerton), A-Trak, Guided By Voices, FIDLAR, Dead Milkmen, Cursive, Bob Mould, Youth Of Today (featuring the full band from 1988, including the original founders Ray Coppo and John Porcelly, as well as Walter Schreifels and Sammy Siegler), Jagwar Ma, Boys Noize, STRFKR, Wild Nothing, Carcass, Aesop Rock, Thundercat, Shannon and the Clams, Baio, Denzel Curry, and more than 40 other performers from across the globe.
SHERWOOD FOREST FAIRE
Beyond all of the music offerings at the fest, Sherwood Forest Faire offers a 23-acre permanent renaissance village that features over 100 permanent buildings including shoppes, pubs, restaurants and stages, many of which will be utilized in creating a highly-curated festival footprint and experience for attendees of all ages. The festival is working to ensure several full shuttle and transportation options will be available for patrons to ensure the safest experience for fans in Austin and beyond.
