Dangerous weather forecasts cancel Levitation 2016

UPDATE (04/29/16: Check out the most recent list of re-bookings with details on locations, times, and bands here.)

Severe storm forecasts have forced Levitation (formerly known as Austin Psych Fest) to shut down because of public safety concerns. Levitation was slated to take place from April 29 to May 1 and was located at Carson Creek Ranch, a popular outdoor venue.

According to the official statement released by the festival’s staff and their producers, The Reverberation Appreciation Society, weather issues had also caused problems in 2015. Thankfully, last year’s festival was able to go on. This year, the city of Austin wasn’t as fortunate:

“The difference between 2015 and 2016 is the severity of the storms being predicted, including high wind, large hail and tornado warnings, combined with high water levels from last week’s flooding,” the aforementioned statement reads. “Following this announcement, the festival has to evacuate the site, meaning that staff and equipment must be loaded out. This leaves us with no opportunity to continue the festival later in the weekend. Even if the weather has improved drastically on Sunday, we would be unable to produce an event at the ranch.”

Festival-goers who purchased their tickets digitally should be contacted by a festival representative via email to sort out refunds. It’s important to note that representatives will be issuing refunds through Front Gate Tickets as well. All ticket types, including Weekend Passes, Deluxe Passes, Single Day Tickets, Camping Passes, Camping Rentals and RV spots will be refunded. Due to the nature of the refund process, these refunds will not be instant, but will be made within 30 days.

This news is a bummer considering that Levitation’s 2016 lineup looked to potentially surpass last year’s. Featured talent included local artists like Bayonne, Holy Wave and The Black Angels. If that wasn’t enough, Levitation 2016 also boasted psych forerunners like Flying Lotus and Animal Collective.

However, don’t lose all hope. Levitation itself claimed they will try to book as many shows as possible at venues downtown. Keep in mind, however, that Levitation tickets will NOT be honored at any subsequent shows artists play or at any other venue.
