‘Tis the season: Ways to take advantage of Austin’s music hibernation

Some call it seasonal depression. Others call it Austin’s music hibernation.

Is it that we are so sun kissed and vitamin D-drunk in the summertime that we feel life is lacking when winter strikes? For those immersed in the Austin music scene, it can feel especially cold.

Autumn brings Austin City Limits and Fun Fun Fun Fest. However, the next festing experience won’t be here until spring break with SXSW. Luckily, local artists can fill this void.

Swan Dive’s Coming Out Party

Swan Dive, on 615 Red River St, will be hosting a Coming Out Party this Saturday, Nov. 28, to keep ATX cheery and bright, featuring Supernomadic at 9 p.m., Jane Ellen Bryant at 10 p.m., Ruby Jane Smith at 11 p.m., The Please Please Me at midnight and ending with Karmatron at 1 a.m. to put the whipped cream on top.

Cherrywood Art Fair

The 14th Annual Cherrywood Art Fair will be another event to look forward to. Dec. 12 & 13the fair will host vendors, activities and musical performances worth seeing including Waking Fable on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., Taylor & the Wild Now on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Sons of Santos on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. All of these bands and more can be enjoyed at the Austin Chronicle Music Stage, on 3803 Maplewood Ave.

The cold, wintery pause in Austin’s festival season doesn’t mean we can’t cozy up with our favorite local artists. Stay tuned for more from On Vinyl Music’s favorite local performers.
