In case you haven’t checked your Facebook timeline or Twitter feed in the last 24 hours, yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that states can no longer keep same-sex couples from marrying, and must recognize their unions. After 40 years of debate over marriage equality in the US, it finally happened: Love won! This social justice milestone calls for the celebration of love and equality, and as our way of ringing in the SCOTUS decision, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite Austin LGBT bands and artists.


Feral Future

Get angry and get down to punk band, Feral Future. This female quartet tackles issues such as rape and gender roles head on with their empowering lyrics and hard hitting guitar riffs. They are currently signed to Western Medical Records out of Austin, TX.

Francine’s hauntingly ethereal voice paired with the quixotic mix of beats is destined to take you away from reality.


Hedda Layne - On Vinyl Music

From soulful gospel to upbeat dance music, Hedda Layne covers it all. You may have seen her with the Austin Symphony Orchestra on Fourth of July in Zilker Park or in cabaret theater around Austin. Hedda is at home on any stage with any audience. This San Antonio native brings a variety of sounds to the table, but is sure to keep optimism and positivity a constant throughout all her songs.


Nakia - On Vinyl MusicSinger-songwriter Nakia Reynoso is known for his soulful, impassioned voice, which has gained him national recognition on nationally acclaimed television show, The Voice. With influences of Otis Redding and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Nakia belts out some of the best blues that Austin has to offer.
